Recipe for the Perfect Care Package

Finals are looming on the horizon, tensions are running high... It's the best possible time to get a package notice and realize that you're only moments away from a tasty, heartwarming treat from home.

HEAD Lines

There's absolutely nothing wrong with the classics (cookies, brownies, and other baked goodies), but in case you're looking for novelty as well as the tried-and-true, here are some suggestions from my students in New York. Feel free to peruse, mark your favorites, and forward to your parents as a "gentle hint"!

• Cashews (or any favorite nutty snack)

• Frozen spinach pies

• A jar of my favorite pasta sauce

• Two boxes of bread sticks

• M&M's

• A card from my mother

• $100

• A pack of new highlighters, because I'm too cheap to replace my old dried-up ones

• A week's supply of frozen, homemade dinners that I could conveniently microwave

• A picture of my cat

• A box full of food from home - like bagels or decent pizza. Preferably a BIG box.

• Hot chocolate packets and a whole bag of marshmallows

• A tin containing a lean cut of London broil

• Edamame beans

• Spiritual enlightenment in a jar

• Thick roll of unmarked 100s (Good luck.)

From Other HEADS

ASK FOR CARE PACKAGES. I loved receiving cookies and photos every now and then, and this lets your parents remain part of your life even if you are far away.
