Creating a new life for myself, with or without old friends?
Some of my friends want to come visit me at schoo-but I wanted to settle in on my own-what should I tell them?

I think that your friends should come visit you, but if you feel like you want to settle in a bit than maybe wait until second semester. Get a little group of friends going first and then introduce the old friends. Your friends have to understand-but if they feel slightly abandoned, dont get too worried. This is perfectly normal behavior in the beginning of college. Nobody ever wants to admit that their best friends from high school are moving on or making new, possibly better friends. If you intend to keep these older friends around then you need to make time for both the old and the new. I think with time you will start to realize who is worth keeping around and who was just there to pass the time throughout high school.

I dont think your friends coming up for a weekend will stop you from settling in. If they want to come for longer than tell them that you want to concentrate on studies and that if you get used to seeing them it will make it harder to say goodbye. If these friends are very close friends than they should understand your fears-and if they dont have not gone away to school yet, then they are going to somehow have to accept your decisions.
