Why do I feel so different in the place that used to be my home?
Now that I am home for winter break I feel this major divide between me and my friends from high school. Are we all growing apart? Am I changing or have they changed?

Unfortunately this is what often happens throughout college. You start changing, growing up, figuring out who you are and where you stand in the world, and sometimes old high school friends just dont fit in that picture. It doesnt mean you should give up on what you used to call home. Embrace what you did miss and try to find the positive in it. But start preparing yourself for many more challenges to come- I am also going through it and I understand.

In my experience, the group of people you call "friends" at home naturally dwindles, and the people you werent really good friends with lose touch with you. However, I have found that my core group of high school friends who I was really close with have stayed with me even through my senior year. I think it's important to keep in touch with your high school friends (if you want to stay friends.) but it does take an effort. And calling every once in a while isn't that hard but it'll help you stay close.

This is a natural process. Spending less time with old friends and seeing them less sometimes shows you that certain friendships are mere friendships of convenience. Also, college is a time of rapid and intense personal change and you have every reason to expect that certain of your friends will get lost in the process. Embrace new friendships and make an effort with old friends. Even if things are not the same as they once were, it is important to have people from this earlier time in your life. They are likely experiencing the same things as you are.
