What is a reasonable age difference when teens date?

I'm interested in hearing from other parents about what they think is an acceptable difference in age between boys and girls when they start to "date" or "go out" or whatever it is they call it now. In other words, what are your parameters and guidelines?
I know a 13-year old girl who's dating or seeing a 17 year old boy/man and that's just not OK in my book--probably illegal in some places. But what about 14 and 16? or 14 and 17? Or 15 and 18? Anyway, like to hear some general rules , feelings and experiences on this topic.

RE: What is a reasonable age difference when teens date?
I think that 14 and 17 is too big of a difference unless this boy makes a concerted effort to meet the parents of the girl and show that he is for real. I think that after they are both 18 there is reasonable flexibility, but what they might not realize is that relationships dont work when the two people are in such different places in their lives. This you may want to warn them about or let them find out for themselves.

Too big of an age difference, particularly if the girl is younger. They may think they are old enough and mature enough for this relationship, but they are not. Lots of risks involved here - for the heart, head and futures.
