House parties |

Hands down, I've met more men at house parties thrown by friends. You know the people have to be slightly cool because they hang out with someone you know. And there you are, at a party, drinking for a few hours. Everyone wants to talk and get to know each other.

One caveat: Halloween. I met a woman when I was in a costume at Halloween party. We had some rapport, but my entire head and face were painted blue so she couldn’t really tell what I looked like. Then I met her another night at a bar. Right when I walked in, I could tell that when she looked at me she said to herself, “He’s balding.” It was pretty much over at that point.

I met the guy I'm dating at a house party. I met him while attending with the guy I used to date, who I also met at a house party. I recommend house parties!

I met a cute girl once in the DMV line. It was awesome. We had two hours to get to know each other before I asked her out on a date.

Not unless your name is Sharise and you live down the block from me in Denver … oh, and you haven't spoken to me in three months.

I've met people at the DMV. I never wanted to see them again. Gross people there!

I know my friends will make fun of me because of this, but really, anytime I step outside, anywhere I go, I’m on the hunt for a good date. I mean, isn’t that why people step outside their door? To find food, to make money, and to look for love.

I’ve had some pretty hot hook-ups with girls I met at various bars. But I’ve found something in common with all of them – the girls end up being crazy! And when you think about it, of course they are: They were in a place in their lives where they met a guy in a bar, talked to him while drunk for an hour or two, and then went home and had sex with him. It’s not the best start to a relationship.

And you're not crazy for doing it, too?

I date really crappy guys and I meet them all in bars. I'm attracted to them for some reason and they end up losing their jobs, and then they lose their house or apartment, and then they need a place to stay. And I end up taking care of them. It's a repeating cycle.

I like bars for meeting people. A few drinks brings out the personalities. You see what you're getting yourself into.

I know it sounds cliché, but I prefer cafes. For one, the guys aren’t drunk there. For another, everyone is sort of there to meet other people anyway. So you can say hi without looking like some sort of weirdo. And finally, if you’re at a café, it generally means you have some extra time to hang out. So you can talk with someone you’re interested in and see if you like them, and if you do you can express interest and go from there. Actually, it’s sort of like a first date that happens by accident. I’ve met a couple of guys like that.

There's a café by my apartment in Atlanta that is a total hook-up spot.

Publix. Six p.m. on any night of the week. Also, outdoor events. We have a lot of festivals and concerts and things like that in my town, and in the warm weather people come out in droves. Beer is served. People walk around, checking each other out. And conversations happen. The next thing you know, you’re either hooking up with someone, or getting her number and going on a date the following Thursday.

Yes! Outdoor events are the best. At concerts, you already know that you like the same kind of music.

I'm assuming you live in a big city. Because the Publix near my house out in the boonies is not the place to pick up chicks, unless you like 'em with kids and a few missing teeth.

Urban grocery stores are GREAT. I usually have two or three girls picked out each time I go. Of course, I never talk to them. But nice eye candy.
