How else can I job search? Should I send my resume to companies that are not currently hiring?

The internet is absolutely NOT the only place to look for a job. Check the newspaper on a regular basis for places that are hiring. Definitely canvas companies that you are interested in even if their are no current job openings. First, research the company. Then call human resources and tell them that you'd like to submit a resume to have on file and get the name of the person. Sometimes you can chat up the HR person and get a little inside info on the likelihood of positions opening up. Write a cover letter that tells them a little about you and why you want to work there.(There are plenty of great books in the library that give you excellent models for writing this kind of cover letter.) Say that you will follow up w/a phone call to make sure they've received your resume. And then DO it! A lot of people never follow up and that's a big mistake. You want them to remember you and think of you, so it doesn't hurt to ask when a good time would be to check in again in the future. (Be careful that you make the distinction between being persistent and a pain in the ass!)
Also, talk to lots of people and let them know you're looking. If there are groups or professional associations in your field, get in touch with them and talk to some established pros. They often like to mentor and guide young people and can sometimes provide a contact. (The informational interview can be a great tool.) If there are job fairs in your field go to them. Use your college's career counseling if available. Attack on all fronts.
Getting a job is work and that can be exhausting, ppersistence and a multi-pronged approach can pay.
(Make sure someone proofs your letters and resume.Another pair of eyes is important)
And again, follow up to make yourself known.

I really do think that in our world today the internet dominates. Networking is the second best thing. Start talking to people, asking parents, friends of parents, if they could send your resume to people they know. I also think that sending your resume to companies that are not currently hiring is a good idea. They may seem uninterested, but you can always continue calling them and if you get desperate even ask to volunteer there. Once they are in a place to look for employees they will remember your name. If a lot of time has gone by and you have something to add to your resume- do it! It will impress them.

I say that the internet is definitely the primary place to look for a job, but make sure to send your resume to anyone and everyone. It does not matter if they are hiring or not. Actually sending it and then calling them might help them to remember you more easily.
