open Trick questions Javarus 07.25.2007 21:09
One of my professors told me about the question they like to ask - what's your greatest weakness? And you're supposed to turn it into a strength. Any other trick questions to look out for?

One employer asked me on an interview, "Why did you quit your last job, you didn't like your boss or coworkers?" I almost said yes until I realized that if I say anything bad about my old job whether it be true or not, all he will remember is that I said something negative and I bashed my former boss. So I just said, "Of course I loved my old job, I'm just ready to move on to big and better things."

In every interview the employer will ask you this question, "Is there anything that will hinder you from doing a great job for our company." Of course the answer is to say no.
open Google yourself PHastings 07.25.2007 21:12
Are you really supposed to Google yourself to make sure there's nothing a future employer might find "out there"?

I have a MySpace account. The interviewer for the job I currently work at asked me if I did, and I instantly thought, "Oh my gosh… what do I have on there and is it really bad? What do my friends have on their pages? Or my boyfriend?” The worries went on and on. Steven, my interviewer (now my co-worker), told me a story of a girl he interviewed where he checked her MySpace account, and it was really bad ... to the point where he didn’t hire her. Thankfully, my profile was good; I was general in my profile. People can discover everything about you on the Internet, but only if you post it! So don't cross that boundary between fun and out of control. Reflect the type of person that you would want people to think of you as.

open Interview advice PHastings 07.25.2007 21:03
I hate interviewing. Anyone have some advice?

It's the little things that help you through interviews. I always have chewed a piece of mint gum on my way to interviews while also listening to calm music in the car. It always helped me relax before all the questions. I just make sure I spit out the gum before I walk in the door to the interview.

If you're a small person that you learn how to have a powerful handshake. People don't expect it from you and will be surprised when they realize you're much stronger than you look.

When you’re interviewing, make sure you have breath mints and a bottle of water. If you’re shaky, sweaty, dry-mouthed or simply grasping for an object to hold onto to for dear life, a bottle of water is always a good option. Nothing huge-no 50 gallon Nalgene bottle, just something that can fit in your bag or you can hold in your hand until you’re ready to go in for the interview. A few deep breaths work wonders as well.

I was once interviewing a young lady for a job. She stood up mid-interview, adjusted her slip, and then sat down and continued speaking. A few words of wisdom: Make sure your undergarments are in place BEFORE you enter the interview.
