Phone is good. If you are creative, trading scrapbooks is also fun. Most of all, just keep inviting to see you, and don't be afraid to make new friends!

Facebook is a great way to keep up with college friends, even the close ones.

Farewell
Every year, my friends and I pick a destination halfway between where we are living and meet up for a girls-only spring break. This is a great bonding experience and lots of fun, but mostly it reinforces the message that we're important to each other.

Don't
The best friends are the ones you never have to say goodbye to. You may not talk to them for months, but when you do you pick up right where you left off.

RE: Saying goodbye to friends
I've stayed close to a group of friends that I met in college, who now live throughout the U.S. We try to regularly take what we first dubbed KBAR (kick back and relax) trips in the form of long weekends, to places like Vegas, Chicago or Austin. This admittedly gets harder to do as husbands, kids and commitments keep us busy. But so worth the effort. We also celebrate each other's birthdays with a group gift. Each person draws a name and buys the birthday gift on behalf of the group. (Then you don't have to collect the money, each person spends a little to buy one nice gift, and it is a great way to keep in touch with each other with thanks.

RE: Saying goodbye to friends
If all you and all of your friends promises to always come out, if you live near each other, whenever it is someone's birthday then there is a good chance if you have lost touch for a few months that can be a good way to get back in touch. If you live far you have to use skype-free computer chat program, so no one has any excuses about how expensive their phone bill will be. Just make sure to buy a microphone if your computer doesn't already have one built in.
