I have been working for a few years and am just going back to school now-will there be a big gap between me and the 18 year olds??

Just starting school now, as a 21 year old-will this be a disadvantage for me?

I think that there will definitely be a gap between you and the other students, but I do not think the gap will be so big that you will not be able to relate to them or make good friends. I think your age will be an advantage for you because you have had real life experience and have decided on your own that you are now ready for college as opposed to students out of high school who aren't necessarily ready, but go because it is what they think they are supposed to do.

You will be at a definite advantage. At first it may seem hard to get back into writing papers and taking notes, but at 21 I would think that you are a lot more mature and will not take your education for granted. Whenever I have older students in my classes they are always the first ones to raise their hands and take things very seriously. Sometimes this is hard for freshman and sophmores to understand, but maybe you can help make them feel more motivated. I think everyone should take a year or two off after high school before college instead of rushing into a major that you have given minimal thought to as most of us don't get enough college preparation in high school.
