Deciding on a major
I just can't decide what to accept as a major - something I love or something that will make gobs of money. How can I decide?

I was involved with my high school newspaper and never questioned that that's what I'd do. I knew I liked to write, and that seemed the best way to do it and make money. Granted, it's not a lot of money, but it's enough to live and let me do what I love. That's probably the best way to choose if you're unsure. Find something you love, that you don't consider work, and figure out how to get paid to do it.

RE: Deciding on a major
I truly believe in the mantra that if you choose something you love as a career, the money will come. So, I think that you should choose the major you love. I've seen people try to go on a pre-med track or pre-law track, because they wanted to make a lot of money. But, because they didn't love what they were doing or would eventually do--they got horrible grades in their classes.

Major
I was always good at math so I gravitated towards math as a major. I'm at law school now and I think the math major prepared me well. Any sort of academic application of your thoughts can prepare you for law school, or any graduate school. Even if you are planning on a career in writing or history, or anything for that matter, math helps you think in terms of principles and fundamentals.

don't be sure too soon
I got to college thinking I was going to do one thing and now I'm almost certain I'll be doing another. That's the great thing about college; you can always change your mind and do something else. Just by being on a college campus you will be exposed to subjects you didn't know existed, and eventually something will interest you.

RE: Deciding on a major
Talk to your professors, and try to locate people in the professional world who are doing both what you love and what you believe will make you money. Ask them questions about their lifetstyle, and how they find their jobs. Sometimes gobs of money don't buy you the quality of life you are looking for if you are constantly stressed.
