Going to a party? Keep these thoughts from other college students in mind.

1) EVERY COLLEGE STUDENT NEEDS TO KNOW the old mantra, “Liquor before beer, never fear. Beer before liquor, never sicker.”
2) IT HELPS TO HAVE A GLASS OF WATER WITH, or in between, drinks. And don’t drink on an empty stomach.
3) IF YOU CLOSE YOUR EYES and you can’t keep your balance, it’s probably time to stop drinking for the night.

TO PREVENT SERIOUS TROUBLE—and perhaps even death—you must follow some simple rules. First, you need to do the stand-up test: The first time you drink a lot of liquor, don’t do it all sitting down. You won’t feel what it’s doing to you. But the first time you stand up, hit the floor, and eat some carpet, you will suddenly feel what it is doing to you. So, stand up often while drinking liquor, to better measure the effect. Also, drink a lot of water when drinking alcohol; you’ve got to dilute that stuff.

THE BEST WAY TO GET OVER A HANGOVER is water and bread. Bread is your best friend: It helps take care of your stomach, and it fills you and soaks up anything. The water makes you not dehydrated anymore. The next day, just make it a Blockbuster night; that’s all you need to do.

If you’re a bunch of girls and you go to a frat party, which you will, be aware of your surroundings and keep track of each other. Be in charge of yourself, and keep track of your girls, and they’ll keep track of you.

DON’T FEEL LIKE YOU NEED to funnel beers to have a good time, and know that if you choose not to drink, there are tons of other people who don’t either. But don’t lecture other people—if they wanted you to be their mom, they would’ve asked. Exceptions: your close friends, people who are being offensive to you, people you are close to, and girls who are about to be taken advantage of because of their state.
