Absolutely. You always hear so many stories about people who start out a part time non paid position, prove themselves, and are then asked to start as a worker on the pay roll. I have heard this in the graphic design industry, criminal justice, educational-and also dont be afraid to ask if they are hiring after being there for a decent amount of time.
