Why does it always seem like people with money and who don't have to work can volunteer or do great internships? I need to support myself and cant do these things. Feeling frustrated.
I really want to volunteer and help people, but I must work and don't have much time outside of work and school.

Maybe you can do something on a smaller scale. If you're an animal lover, there's a good chance that a local shelter can use your help as little as once a week, or maybe on weekends. There are probably volunteer organizations that offer opportunities that fit your schedule.
You don't have to be available full time to make a difference or to feel satisfaction in helping people.

I worked for 45+ years (also a single mother) and thought I could NEVER retire but then I found out that I could volunteer at various organizations who supplement their staff with volunteers, offering FREE room and board in exchange for workplace skills. All I had to do was get there. I now volunteer for 6 mos away/6 mos at home and LOVE MY LIFE! Just speak with a volunteer coordinator about where, how many hours, skills .. etc. If I can afford it on SS income, so can you.
