The student goes to the school for the football team, and nothing else. Hate to break it to you, but football season ends, and college continues.

RE: Choosing a college: common mistakes
I think a common mistake is choosing schools just based on rankings...even if you are looking at the best schools, basically the 4 schools below them are of the same quality, and you should try to find a good match for you rather than simply going on rankings. Of course, rankings are a good indicator of the general quality of the schools you are applying to, but use them as a guide rather than the end-all decision maker.

One mistake people tend to make is judging a school based on how much fun they had at orientation weekend. Usually, such visits are not representative of normal college day-to-day!

I think some people make the mistake of going where it is popular to go. For example on the east coast everyone wants to go to maryland. They hear it is a good school for greek life and has a good ranking so they automatically think it will be wonderful. People need to go on their own path-it takes time to search for a college that is suitable for you. Dont just settle.
