What's Due When?

Plan ahead to make sure you have everything in the college application ready in time.

With your final list of schools determined, it is time to figure out what work is in store for you so you can get organized. With so many things to keep track of (essays, testing dates, application deadlines, etc.) in a limited time, you need to be as efficient as possible. If you can see in advance that you may be able to use an essay more than once, for example, it will take some pressure off.

Log on to each application or download them onto your computer. Make note of the following and keep track of these on a master calendar:

• Final due dates for all documents

• Essay topics and lengths (Are any of them the same?)

• Forms to fill out
• Policies about supplemental material (You may want to prepare something extra.)

HOH Tip

Work backwards to write in additional personal deadlines. For example, if a teacher recommendation is due on a certain date, mark down a month or two earlier that you need to give your teacher the form to fill out.
