I'm planning a college visiting trip, but I'm not sure which colleges to go to. I have my top 3, that's it. A friend suggested that I experiment a little, and see other schools. Is there any good reason to do this? Thank.

Definitely experiment! Go out there, and visit at least one school that's 100% different than anything you think you'd like. It might help you either realize how much you like what you like, or that there is more out there than you think. Either way, you've got nothing to lose.

Don't look at schools that everyone knows and talks about. You need to find a college that is good for you. When I decided to look at Muhlenberg College, most of my friends said, “Muhlenwhat?” Ignoring their naïveté was the best decision I have ever made. When I visited Muhlenberg I felt right at home. There is no better description than to say that it just felt right. There is no such thing as a “good college.” Good is something that one needs to decide for oneself. I suggest having an open mind and not deciding anything about a school until you see it with your own eyes.

My parents took me on college tours, though on several occasions they dragged me on tours of schools I had no interest in. You, not your parents, should pick your tour itinerary.
