I agree with everything else said here. And Don't forget alumni! They will share detailed information with you, but again, be careful to always consider the source. They will likely think the place where they attended college is the perfect place for anyone.

Parents/Siblings/Close Friends. People who know you well will be able to suggest places where they think you will thrive. People can be biased, though, so be prepared to take advice with a grain of salt.

Also, look for books and videos. Hopefully, your high school will have a library of college catalogs and information. Spend some time in your college guidance office and ask for help from the staff, volunteers, and students working there.

University publications too! Definitely check the “send me material” box on the PSAT and PACT—colleges buy names of students they think could be competitive applicants, so you will get information arriving directly to your mailbox. Additionally, fill out forms on other college Web sites requesting information.

These days, printed materials from the college are helpful, but they are not necessarily thorough. You can check out a broader range of information online, from academics to clubs to atmosphere to statistics.
